The National Association of Social Workers of Uganda (NASWU) has recruited John Mary Ssekate as Capacity Development Officer. In his role, Mr. Ssekate will develop and implement NASWU’s capacity building program to reinforce social service provision in Uganda.

He will also be responsible for providing technical guidance in the development of capacity building programs; lead the development of capacity building standards for NASWU programs and structures (Branch Executive Committees); initiate, develop and coordinate capacity building activities; set up and maintain a coordinated system to achieve the best use of capacity building resources within and outside NASWU.

Johnmary brings with him strength in capacity training and connectivity in teaching institutions and social work agencies which he believes are cardinal for not only strengthening the profession but are also key in pushing for attainment of the social work council.

He plans on ensuring that the strategic plan of NASWU is well implemented by designing training programs for young social workers and continuous capacity development for those in practice that is tailored to increasing members both in numbers and quality.

Upon joining NASWU, Johnmary noted that he was extremely happy because this is where his passion lies. “My passion lies in serving other people and empowering the marginalized. Joining NASWU correlates well with my purpose in life to extend God’s love through empowering the marginalized in society and this is in conformity with the principles and values of the social work profession,” Ssekate said.
